Sebel Hotel – Challenge Overcome

Foundation work has started on the long awaited Sebel Hotel in Lower Hutt. The four-star, international class hotel is a key component of the city's economic and artistic revival.

First announced in 2015, the project hit a couple of snags, until Lattey was able to provide innovative solutions to meet the specific geotechnical requirements of the site. A new system of shallow screw piles was designed by Lattey's specialists, cutting costs by 25% over the original projections. This represented a significant economy, which in turn allowed the project to go ahead.

Lattey's crew was on site mid-May to perform pile testing. The company has now began manufacture of the piles. Foundations should be completed by the end of July or earlier. Lattey may then come into the construction to provide precast components for the building.
